On October 4th 2024, NorthGate College proudly held its Student Leadership Induction Ceremony for this academic year, a significant event dedicated to celebrating and appointing young leaders who will steward their peers and contribute to the school’s operations. This ceremony not only acknowledged the newly selected leaders but also underscored our unwavering commitment to cultivating the next generation of ethical and effective leaders. The establishment of this Student Leadership Team offers a platform for personal growth as students are entrusted with formal responsibilities. These roles demand a commitment to uphold the high standards of the College, placing significant responsibility on the student’s shoulders. The entire Student Leadership body of 22 students is led by a Core Team of Rosh Smith (Head Prefect), Myah Lamont-Harper (Head Prefect), and Joshua Joseph (Deputy Head Prefect). While only a few students were chosen for the leadership positions, it is a growth opportunity for the collective, as this leadership development thrust benefits the entire school community.
The College’s Director, Yolande La Pierre emphasized that leadership is both a privilege and a profound responsibility. Extracting biblical principles from Exodus 18:19-26, she highlighted the qualities of good leadership, emphasizing that leaders must be wise, trustworthy, and aligned with God’s principles. This perspective provided an inspiring framework for the day, reminding all in attendance that leadership begins with character and a willingness to serve. The leaders were chosen through a thoughtful process that placed character above skill. They were seen as individuals who would lead by example, serve with integrity, and encourage cooperation. These values echo the lessons Moses implemented when selecting leaders for the Israelites, making the Student Leadership induction not merely a school event but a principled developmental process from which all can learn and grow. As these students embark on their leadership journey, they carry not only the expectations of their peers but also the support of the NGC community dedicated to their success. We wish them all the best!
